Hi Mr. Vance-

Just wanted to say WOW what nice photos. It was a pleasure meeting and talking with you at the conference in Gatlinburg. I was the photographer with Gov. Bredesen. Maybe we can get together and go shooting sometime!

If you have a chance, please visit our web site: www.thepurplelens.com

Thanks so much for all your kind messages the past while concerning my daughter and her twins. We are so grateful that they seem to improve every day. It's nice to have the support of good people, like you.

Hi Dick,
Thanks for your comments, that was our first but not last visit to Cades Cove. We hope to come back this winter when there is some snow on the ground. I am a regular visitor to Buz's galleries and will add you to our list. Keep up the good work.

Dear Richard,

Hope you don't mind my asking a lengthy question? I was immediately drawn to your Annapolis gallery. Please read on.....

I have happily owned an Uzi and an E100-RS for over 7 years....always wanting a new camera, but never taking the leap. I am an occasional photographer of my son's hockey games (E100 was fun but never sharp enough to get a great action shot), my daughter's college graduation and other family events. (And I am also a sucker for a sunset or cloud shot)

Of late my wife is interested in getting a small compact camera. However, when we went to the camera shop I discovered the Nikon D50 and the D70s for myself and once again the desire to upgrade was stirred. (Years ago I was into 35mm with my Nikon FE, which I still have including the lenses.)

The reason for the renewed interest is that our son was just recently accepted to the US Naval Academy at Annapolis from the wait list. He graduates high school on June 24th and we must bring him to "Plebe" summer on June 28th. Yes we are absolutely ecstatic and so is he!

Now for years the "Uzi" has been a fun camera, but I always felt it lacked the sharpness of my old Nikon FE 35mm. Then our oldest daughter purchased a Canon Powershot IS S1. So my thoughts were on the Canon Powershot IS S3 (12x optical and a 6 mp camera) as an Uzi replacement until I noticed and felt the D50 and D70s cameras. I am asking you because I see you have used both the Uzi and now the Nikon D70. What is your opinion about upgrading to either the D50 or the D70s? (I am leaning toward the D50, but with the D70s' 18-70mm Nikkor lens and then maybe adding the Nikkor 70-300mm or just getting the 18-200mm if you can find one!)

Then there is the Nikon D200. Perhaps it is too much camera for me in the long run being the amateur that I am. Historically I have not gotten into playing around with photos in PS. I guess I want a camera that will give me great shots right out of the box.

Sorry for such a long email, but as I was drawn to your Annapolis gallery and then saw the equipment you are currently using.

My congratulations to your Annapolis grad. I hope he is doing well and would love to hear what he has chosen to pursue. Please write back, even if it is to tell me you don't have the time to respond to this "tome"...lol!

Thanks too for sharing your pictures.

Sincerely,

Ron Shishkoff

Hey Dickie, just got a look at ole Mc on the web at Annapolis. Bet he's got the "big head" now. I LOVED viewing your photography. They are all fantastic. Used to go shooting with a friend, but she moved to Cinci. Don't use the old camera much any more. Love shooting. Glad you are enjoying yourself at least on occasion. Since we're both in the same career field, I know how stressful your life must be. Sorry I missed the big trip. Sounds and looks like you guys had a great time. Hope to see you around. Joyce

Yves,
Good plan for the C-3000. I've recently gotten an Olympus C-2100UZ but still use the C-3000 a lot.
The King Snake has lived around our house for several years. Not a pet but very tolerant of us. They are nice to have around as they will kill other snakes and eat mice, too.
Dick:)
